Leaning Tower Illusion
Category: Size and Distance | Added: November 30, 2009

These two images of the Leaning Tower of Pisa are identical but if you look at them closely you'll notice that the tower on the right appears to be leaning more than the one on the left even though there is no difference between the two. This illusion won the Best Visual Illusion of the Year contest in 2007.

Observe very well, the edge are a little different at the bottom for the image, yes both pics they were taken in the same place, but not in the position for the Camara. In one the Camara was straight and the other one the Camara was more vented to the front , I am not expert in these things but I was trying to find the answer. LOL

There totally right the leaning tower on the right appears to be leaning more than the leaning tower on the left.

This is a good one. There are no camera or background color tricks. The illusion is that when two (or more) identical leaning or receeding objects are placed next to each other, the object the furthest out appears to be leaning the most. When in fact they are all identical.

Yeah, I\'m pretty sure it is real. The Scholar-pedia (peer-reviewed version of Wiki-pedia)explains it. http://www.scholarpedia.org/wiki/index.php?title=Leaning_tower_illusion&oldid=69041

it dosent work AT all...well not to me and my friends in my class

You are comparing the edges which face each other. The left edge of the right image slopes more than the right edge of the left image.

they look like different colored blue backrounds, maybe it has to do with that???
